750-850 degrees Celsius is my favorite temperature range for ceramics. Lumen Rubrum - meaning "red light" in Latin, at this temperature the pottery shines with a wonderful red glow. "Red is the color of life", in a historic sence the color red representing passion, courage, birth, victory, red is love, and also the color for sacrifice, martyrdom and death. Blod is red, and red is one of our strogest symbolic colors. The color red is no place more beautiful than in the pottery kiln reaching Lumen Rubrum.

Pre heating the Egg kiln

The Egg Kiln in pictures – Low Fired Pottery. Preheating with a newspaper was not so smart, as it made a lot of ash land on the glaze, and in these low temperatures, ash will not melt into a glaze.

The maximum temperature on the ceramics

The maximum temperature on the ceramic is reached, and from here the kiln gets shut down. I estimate this color to be bright red, glowing, but not turning to orange. The camera settings can make the photo a bit misleading. But if my estimate is correct, the temperature is 750 – 800 degrees Celsius, maximum 850. Also, see the same color inside the cup.
